Main Street Catonsville will soon have a new home decor and original art retail store named Domain to add to its historic downtown. The storefront will be located in between Umami Global Bistro and Sprout Natural Choice at 710 Frederick Road.
Domain will join a growing list of new retail stores on main street, including the 818 Market.
The store will feature a selection of locally made products like handmade throw pillows, hand-poured candles and original artwork. In addition, Domain will offer jewelry and home accessories from female artisan collectives around the world.
An emphasis on both local and globally sourced decor, fair trade and sustainable interior home furnishings gives richness and design appeal to the collection. Including an Domain designed exclusive – a collection of handmade ceramic vases and planters made locally by a wonderful artist.
Owner Laura Hodges Opens Domain
Curated by Laura Hodges, owner and principal designer at the Laura Hodges Studio, the design aesthetic is one of international modern with emphasis on bold colors, pattern and texture.
Laura’s childhood home was located in a small, picturesque town in northern England and her love of design began in early childhood. Influenced by a Norwegian grandmother, British mother and Jamaican father, Laura developed an early appreciation for travel and diverse cultures, having traveled extensively to over thirty countries — from Greece and Morocco to Thailand and Peru.
Laura has a degree from the New York School of Interior Design, with additional studies in music and culinary arts. She was mentored by and worked with famed New York interior designers Jamie Drake and Thomas Jayne.
Her work has been featured across the country, from New York to Hawaii, Las Vegas and Florida. The Domain retail shop is a natural outcome of her individualized design services. It allows her to bring curated design to a larger audience.
Domain Believes in Community Commitment
Laura Hodges believes in community commitment and is planning on hosting monthly events. Domain will host book signings, artist meet-and-greets, and special Girl’s Night Out in partnership with other local shops.
Owner Laura Hodges is passionate about giving back to communities – both local and international. Profits from these handcrafted product sales go straight back to support and encourage female entrepreneurs. The includes local and international artisans in such countries as Peru, Senegal and India.
We personally know and can recommend Laura for her professionalism, incredible talent and authentic personality.
